Before the first sketch, describe an ordinary day in the kitchen. A space for one person differs from a family kitchen where several people cook together. The users’ height, shopping habits and connection to the living room matter too.

- define where groceries are unpacked and waste is sorted
- check how much worktop you need between sink and hob
- leave capacity for possessions that will accumulate over time
Think in zones, not a rigid triangle
The classic work triangle remains useful, but a modern kitchen benefits more from a natural sequence of zones: supplies, storage, washing, preparation and cooking. A logical flow reduces unnecessary movement and prevents household members from crossing paths.

Let materials and light work together
View front and worktop samples in the intended room and at different times of day. Matt lacquer, veneer and stone all respond to the colour temperature of light. Combine general lighting with even task light below cabinets and a softer evening layer.
Finish with the details that shape every day: worktop height, full-extension drawers, soft closing, accessible sockets and joints that are easy to clean. These decisions determine whether the kitchen remains a pleasure years later.
